Where to start cleaning?
It has been more or less a long time since you urgently needed to clean your home again. When this urgency is reached is different for everyone. Some people clean every day, others only every Saturday, others interrupt every now and then the periods between two spring cleaning by irregular cleaning actions. The next time you clean your apartment, it should be the right time. In addition to the right cleaning utensils like a steam cleaner or a steam mop, this also includes the right approach: Where to start cleaning? For quite a few people, this is the first small problem that cleaning, in general, will sometimes move into the distant future. But just as there are also tips for all other problems around cleaning, there are also tips for the order of cleaning your home. We will introduce these to you so that you can carry out all the stages of large-scale cleaning in the correct manner and order.
How often do you have to steam clean?
You have to clean the apartment, whether you like it or not, otherwise the dust piles up everywhere, otherwise, if you have children or bigger, hairy pets, you even have to clean the apartment much more often. In addition to ‘Where to start cleaning?’, ‘When to start cleaning’ is also an important question. Because if you keep to the correct intervals for you, you will get into a habitual rhythm, which can already be a first aid to you to overcome inner piggy. And it is also easy to clean your home if the dirt is not already stuck everywhere and can only be removed with aggressive special cleaners. A steam cleaner certainly helps with dried dirt. For tile floors, you can find tile floor cleaning machines here. But we don’t assume that you want to let your four walls deteriorate into a messy apartment, but that you clean your apartment at appropriate, necessary intervals. There are two extreme types of plaster here: the plaster muffle and the one with the plaster mania. Both meet somewhere in the middle, where dirt is carried in every day, where dog hair or children’s marks have to be removed every day. To say it: There are reasons for every household to clean sooner or later, you should not start too late with it, but every day the whole apartment clean comes certainly also the rather unhealthy clinical purity equal.
What room do you start with?
Of course, no housewife can see well if the household goes to the dogs – or to the cats, or the children. If you then decide to clean the apartment again in a major effort, proceed with a system, one that not only aims at cleaning utensils and cleaning agents but also on the order of the rooms. So the question ‘Where to start cleaning?’ is specifically aimed at the rooms in the apartment or house, and for good reason, as our suggested sequence will make clear. First of all: Many women have their own “spatial system” when they clean their apartment or house. But they all have good recommendations, so do we, of course:
- Laundry first
- Start in the dirtiest rooms (only as a motivational strategy)
- Start on the upper floors.
- Start upstairs, on the ceilings, where the spider webs sit.
- Clean lampshades from ceiling luminaires
- Early soaking of lime in the bath
- Water flowers if necessary, also on balcony or terrace
- Wipe windowsills
- Change bed linen
- If necessary, special cleaning actions, such as cleaning the bathroom completely, special kitchen cleaning (cleaning the oven or refrigerator, etc.)
- Basic cleaning apartment
- Kitchen basic cleaning
- Bathroom basic cleaning
- Always dust first…
- Perhaps also, if necessary, to clean out and clear out cupboards, drawers, and shelves
- …then vacuum
- …then first wipe – we’ll talk about this order later on
- Finally, clean the washbasins/sinks from which you take the cleaning water and where you empty the dirty water.
- Windows are usually cleaned on a different day.
In the beginning, it is about motivation, which is why we advise doing the biggest chunk right at the beginning. After that, the main thing is not to spread the dirt unnecessarily from one room to another when you clean your apartment so that you don’t have to clean twice. In between, work such as watering flowers or cleaning the bathroom is done, and the dirt that is created is taken into account in the sophisticated cleaning sequence.
Vacuuming before wiping
Now you’ve got the dust “by hand”, so to speak, and the next step is machine support. The vacuum cleaner, an excellent invention that not only removes the coarse dirt, for example around the entrance area but can also remove the smallest dust particles in the rest of the household. But of course, it is not suitable for dusting furniture, accessories, etc. – you have already done this in advance, based on our order, in diligent manual work. Now it’s time for the rough work of cleaning the flat, the next step, the step before the final wipe. And yes, if you clean your flat, you should pay attention to this order urgently, because the coarse dirt must be removed from the floor first because otherwise, you pull it with the mop through the whole flat. And it can also become somewhat unaesthetic otherwise.
If you have had to clean your apartment in a different order because you forgot to vacuum before, you know what we are talking about: without vacuuming, wiping becomes a hairy business. They are still lying all over the floor, and when they are wiping, they are dragging themselves in long, wet, greasy streaks behind the wiping mob. From time to time they break away from the somewhat nasty mixture at the mob and simply lie down in one corner or the other. This applies to human as well as animal hair, dust accumulations, wool mice and dirt and garbage that still lies around. All this doesn’t belong on the floor when wiping but should already have been removed in the “pre-wash”, during the preparatory vacuuming and disposed of in the household waste.
Why Steam Cleaners?
Steam cleaners (and steam mops) are real all-rounders in the household. Not only floors, windows, and tiles will be spotlessly clean in no time at all, stains on upholstered furniture will also disappear. Without any effort or chemicals. Read here which criteria you should pay attention to when buying a steam cleaner, which accessories are important and which appliances you can buy with a clear conscience.
How cleaning with a steam cleaner works
Basically, three factors play a role in the cleaning effect of steam or high-pressure cleaners:
- the mechanical effect of the steam shock
- high temperature
- condensation of steam particles.
At a speed of up to 180 km/h, the steam hits the surface to be cleaned and dissolves the dirt. The higher the temperature, the better the result. Unlike brushes, cloths, etc., the hot steam reaches even the finest cracks and pores, kill bacteria and controls bed bugs. When it then condenses to water again, it loosens the dirt from the substrate. This does not require any further cleaning agents.
What types of high-pressure cleaners are there?
High-pressure cleaners are available in many variants and different sizes. These include
- the steam duck (hand steam cleaner)
- the floor steam cleaner (similar to a vacuum cleaner)
- the steam broom (rod shape)
Which variant to choose depends on the application of the steam mop. The handy steam duck is a good choice if you are looking for an appliance that quickly brings the kitchen or bathroom to a high gloss. Who would like to use the equipment however multi functionally, should seize to a high-quality steam broom or floor steam cleaner with additional equipment? In addition to the wattage, which provides information about the strength of the steam pressure, user-friendliness and safety are also important criteria when making a purchase. Safety is ensured on most appliances with a two-tank system and a child safety lock.
Useful accessories for steam cleaners
To clean bathroom fittings or stainless steel surfaces in the kitchen with the steam cleaner, you need the right accessories. For the bathroom, the market leader Dupray recommends point jet nozzles, which must be equipped with a brush attachment for slight calcification or soap edges. In order to keep joints clean, the nozzle should not only be moved across but also diagonally to the joint, so the recommendation.
Stainless steel surfaces in the kitchen, on the other hand, are best cleaned with a nozzle coating of plush velour. Often, brand manufacturers already include extensive accessories in the purchase price. Then steam cleaners can even iron. Thanks to the increased pressure, even multi-layer or strong fabrics are penetrated and thus smoothed by one-time ironing.
